Solar Electricity

Solar electricity is generally created thru the use of PV or Photovoltaic technology. Photovoltaic panels are used to convert sunlight into solar energy.  This energy is converted into electricity when they are hit by sunlight.  Many home owners are converting to solar electricity because sunlight is abundant and free. It is a great way not only to help save the environment, but to save on your energy costs.

Solar electricity has been in use for a number of years but is still considered a cutting edge technology. Nevertheless, there are a wide range of appliances nowadays that are designed to make use of solar electricity. Photovoltaic cells have been a common source of electricity for small consumer electronics such as radios, calculators, and other small battery powered devices since the 1980s. The production of photovoltaic modules is growing at the rate of about 25 percent a year. There has been a major push in Europe, the US and Japan to include solar-based electrical systems in new construction in both residential and commercial structures. This technology is here to stay. Availability, as well as production and installation costs are certain to come down in the next couple of years.

Solar electricity is also a great source of backup power if you live in an area that is prone to frequent outages.  Equipment used for solar electricity is relatively inexpensive and widely available, as is sunlight itself – it’s available almost anywhere, unless you live in the polar regions.
